The Devil Bat

Plots: A mad scientist develops an aftershave lotion that causes his gigantic bats to kill anyone who wears it. Dr. Carruthers feels bitter at being betrayed by his employers, Heath and Morton, when they became rich as a result of a product he devised. He gains revenge by electrically enlarging bats and sending them out to kill his employers’ family members by instilling in the bats a hatred for a particular perfume he has discovered, which he gets his victims to apply before going outside. Johnny Layton, a reporter, finally figures out that Carruthers is the killer; after putting the perfume on himself, he douses it on Carruthers, hoping it will compel him to give himself away. One of the two is attacked as the giant bat makes one of its screaming, swooping power dives. In Heathville, Dr. Paul Carruthers is a prominent scientist who helped develop and grow the local chemical company, but now he resents the the owners, Martin Heath and Don Morton, who became rich with all his research and work. Dr. Carruthers electrically develops a huge bat and prepares an aftershave lotion to attract the bat. Then he gives the lotion to members of both families to test and the giant bat attacks them in the neck, killing them one by one. Snoopy reporter Johnny Layton and photographer “One-Shot” McGuire are assigned by their editor at the “Chicago Register” to investigate the murders, and Layton falls for Mary Heath as the bat continues to attack the members of the Heath family.
