Plots: To save her father from death in the army, a young maiden secretly goes in his place and becomes one of China’s greatest heroines in the process. A young female decides to fill in for her family in the army to help fight off the enemies and save the country. Along the way, she does her best to fit in. She learns new things that could help save her country and learns new things about herself as a person. Clever Mulan (Ming-Na Wen) proves her worth outside of her tradition-bound society when, disguised as male soldier “Ping,” she bravely takes her father Fa Zhou (the late Soon-Tek Oh)’s place in China’s Imperial Army. Helped by her outrageously funny guardian dragon Mushu (Eddie Murphy) and a lucky cricket named Cri-Kee (Frank Welker), Mulan strives to earn the respect of her fellow warriors and their courageous Captain Shang (BD Wong). Mulan’s adventures lead to a climactic battle atop the Imperial Palace, where her family’s honor and the fate of the Emperor (the late Pat Morita) and all of China rests in her hands.
